The puppies are
coming, the puppies are coming!
Charley started delivering pups at about 3:30 pm on Tuesday, Dec 22. Of
course she planned this because
Ernie and I were supposed to be going to Smithfield that evening for dinner with
family.
Here's the order of appearance:
| Time of Birth | Weight | Color | Sex | Status |
| 3:30 pm | 1 lb 4.25 oz | blue | male | Dobieden (1) |
| 6:30 pm | 1 lb 2.0 oz | red | male | Emily & John (1) |
| 7:15 pm | 1 lb 1.75 oz | blue | male | The Foxx's (2) |
| 7:35 pm | 1 lb .5 oz | red | male | Bette & Michael (2) |
| 9:20 pm | 1 lb 1.75 oz | blue | male | |
| 9:00
am (via c-section) |
1 lb 1.5 oz | fawn | male |
This will
probably be Charley's last litter. After a few complications, and a pup
being stuck in the birth canal, we took Charley in for an
emergency c-section. Although we saved Charley and one other pup, we did
lose four other pups around this surgery. A black pup had
turned in such a way that his head was back over his shoulders and both
shoulders and head were trying to present at the same time, thus
blocking the birth canal for others following. Charley actually had 10
pups in this litter and we lost the black pup (sex unknown), a fawn male,
a red female, and a fawn female. The fawn female actually survived the
surgery, but died shortly after we brought her home. The lone survivor
of the c-section, is the fawn male. So we are very thankful to have 6
healthy baby boys, and Charley, but we are sorry to have lost the other four
souls in this litter. It definitely opens your eyes about just how fragile
life is.
I'll have more pictures later of this miracle litter.
